My research activities focus on biodiversity conservation and the functioning of forest ecosystems.

Conservation of biodiversity at the plot and landscape scale, using butterflies as a model in the Landes de Gascogne forest

Studies carried out in the Landes de Gascogne forest have shown that semi-natural habitats such as firebreaks and isolated broadleaf woodlands situated in a matrix of pine plantations constitute butterfly-rich habitats compared to pine stands. The composition of these butterfly communities is not only influenced by the composition and size of the habitat patches but also by the composition and structure of the landscape. Surveys both at the edge and inside pine stands showed that butterflies are more numerous at the edge than inside, but that the pine plots are not "empty". It seems likely that there is frequent exchange between edge and interior and that landscape heterogeneity is a key factor for the conservation of this group.

My more recent studies on biodiversity focus on the effect of connectivity and landscape mosaic on the functional composition of butterflies (LEVANA project) and multi-taxonomic biodiversity in Bordeaux Métropole (Biodiver'Cité project).

 

Functional role of tree diversity on the functioning of the forest ecosystem

Study on the presence of mistletoe on Scots pine in pure and mixed stands with maritime pine.

I participated in various projects to evaluate the effect of forest species mixing on pest distribution patterns and natural enemies.
